The Swiss company, SAV-IOL, started developing R-TASC in 2018, a long-term project that will overcome the limitations encountered in intraocular lenses for cataract surgery. R-TASC is an active intraocular lens with real time autofocus and wireless connectivity, an entirely novel approach set to push the boundaries of the intraocular lens market.

Cataract procedure requires to replace the natural lens by an artificial lens called intraocular lens (IOL). Current IOLs come with compromises between quality of vision and unwanted visual disturbances. To overcome this issue, SAV-IOL started working on an electronically controlled optical lens able to provide a full visual accommodation range imitating the natural lens of the eye.
